Aid convoy reaches Congo rebel zone

The first U.N. convoy, packed with medical supplies and aid workers, rolled through the front-line into the rebel-held zone of eastern Congo.

 

U.N. troops escorted the relief caravan, which set out from the provincial capital Goma on a mission to help a quarter of a million displaced people.

 

African and Western governments are trying to organise a regional summit this week to bring together the presidents of Congo and Rwanda to discuss the conflict on their common border.
