Boat sinks in Indian Ocean

Rescue teams searched the Indian Ocean for survivors after a fishing boat carrying at least 40 people sank.

 

A merchant ship in the area rescued some passengers immediately after the sinking vessel sent a distress signal.

 

It was unclear where the sunken ship was heading or whether it was carrying asylum seekers.
