Congratulation message of President Barroso to Viktor Orbán on his election victory

President Barroso this evening phoned Viktor Orbán to congratulate him personally, emphasising his clear election victory, based on a pro-European programme and a strong commitment to European values. The full text of President Barroso's written message of congratulations folllows below.

“On behalf of the European Commission and myself, I would like to congratulate you on your impressive electoral victory and on the confidence given to you by the Hungarian people as the next Prime Minister of the Republic of Hungary. You will come into office at a crucial time, as Hungary and other member states need to act consistently to respond to the challenges of the economic crisis. The European Union has already showed unity and solidarity to help member states finding their way out of the crisis. Likewise, the adoption and implementation of the Europe 2020 strategy will be a priority for the near future, and we count on your commitment and support. I wish you every success in your work as Prime Minister and I look forward to working with you towards the successful implementation of our common European projects.”
