Czech Prime Minister Jan Fischer will visit Brussels on 8 and 9 June

The Czech Prime Minister and President of the European Council Jan Fischer will visit Brussels on 8 and 9 June 2009.

On 8 June Mr Fischer will meet the Secretary General  Jaap de Hoop Scheffer to discuss the current security challenges including the on-going NATO led operations and missions. In the morning of 9 June Jan Fischer will meet the President of the European Commission  José Manuel Barroso. The talks will focus mainly on the preparations of the upcoming European Council as well as on the current situation in the Russian – Ukrainian  relations with regard to the gas deliveries to the EU. From the initiative of the Czech Prime Minister this issue was discussed during a telephone conversation with the President of the European Commission already on Friday 5 June.

Mr Fischer will fly from Brussels directly to Berlin where he will meet the Chancellor Angela Merkel.

The journeys are a part of the preparations of the Czech Presidency for the European Council in Brussels on 18 and 19 June.
