Lithuania’s Foreign Minister: It is Necessary to strengthen EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia

On 2 October, Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Vygaudas Ušackas visited a refugee camp in Tserovani and the town of Gori next to the administrative border with Chinvali region (South Ossetia), where on 1 October a firefight took place in Zemo-Nikozi.

On October 1, the Minister met with the head of European Union Monitoring Mission in Georgia Hansjörg Haber. During the meeting, the Minister stressed the importance to strengthen the EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia. According to the Minister, the mission is an important measure that helps to restore confidence between the two countries.

V.Ušackas encourages for a greater EU’s involvement seeking to resolve questions related to the return of refugees. The Minister also noted that the EU Monitoring Mission should cover the whole of Georgian territory, as it is provided in its mandate.
