On Constitutional Act of Union State to be held end 2006

Published: 24 October 2005 y., Monday

The referendum on the Constitutional Act of the Belarus-Russia Union State will be held at the end of 2006, State Secretary of the Union State Pavel Borodin stated after the Moscow meeting of the joint Belarusian-Russian commission for drafting the Union State’s Constitution.

As some news agencies quote Pavel Borodin, today the Belarusian and Russian parliamentarians held fruitful talks. “The Constitutional Act is a document of the transition period, which provides that the member-states will delegate some of their powers to the Union State”, he noted. According to Pavel Borodin, the draft says that the Supreme State Council remains the supreme body of the Union State. The Union State’s parliament and court authorities will be set up in line with the document.
