The election of Unesco’s Director General will take place in Paris

In Paris, the 182nd session of UNESCO’s Executive Board is beginning on 7 September and will last till 23 Septemberat the headquarters of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The main issue that will be covered during this session of the Executive Board is the election of UNESCO’s Director General.  

Joint candidate of the three Baltic States, Ambassador Ina Marčiulionytė is among the nine candidates to the post of UNESCO’s Director General.

There are 55 issues on the agenda of the session of the Executive Board, including UNESCO’s programme and budget for 2010-2011, the action plan for the “International Year for the Rapprochement of Cultures” (2010), the implementation of a programme “Information for all” and the election of the Director General.  

During this session, Lithuania will be represented by Ambassador and Permanent Delegate of Lithuania to UNESCO Ina Marčiulionytė, and Secretary General of the Lithuanian National Commission for UNESCO Asta Dirmaitė.

On 10 September, Lithuania’s Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Asta Skaisgirytė Liauškienė will take part in the events of the session of the Executive Board.

In 2005, Lithuania was elected to UNESCO’s Executive Board for the term of four years; in the autumn of 2007, Ambassador Ina Marčiulionytė became Vice-President of the Executive Board for the duration of two years.
