UK anger as staff arrested in Iran

Published: 29 June 2009 y., Monday

A new row between Iran and Britain flared on Sunday following the arrest of several Iranian British embassy staff.

Iran's state English-language satellite television channel, Press TV reported that eight local staff at the Tehran mission had been detained for what it called their "considerable role" in post-election unrest.

The arrests underscore the hardline leadership's effort to blame unprecedented post-election protests on Western powers rather than on popular anger.
