UN to Discuss Situation in Occupied Azeri Territories

Published: 17 September 2005 y., Saturday

The situation in the occupied Azeri territories will be discussed at the 60th session of the United Nations General Assembly on the initiative of Azerbaijan. Despite resistance by Armenia, the issue was included in the session agenda.
The spokesman for the Armenian foreign ministry has expressed discontent over this, threatening that his country may pull out of peace talks.

“Armenia will withdraw from talks on the conflict settlement in case Azerbaijan puts any issue concerning the Garabagh conflict on discussion at the UN.”

The OSCE fact-finding mission delegated to the region this year confirmed the illegal settlements of Armenians in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijani representative at the organization Yashar Aliyev says the UN has again stated its firm position by backing Azerbaijan’s fair step. “This is an important political and diplomatic factor for the liberation of the occupied territories”, he added.
