Volcano errupts in Iceland

Icelandic authorities have declared a local state of emergency after this volcanic eruption on the country’s fifth largest glacier. The volcano threw up a plume of smoke about one kilometre high, and international flights were diverted or cancelled due to a possible risk of clouds of ash interfering with navigation.
