The aggregate cargo turnover of the 8 largest ports on the East Baltic comprised over the 10 months 2001 130.06 million tons. About a quarter of this (32.609 million tons) was handled by Ventspils, Latvia. The port's turnover over this period increased by 12%.
St. Petersburg, Russia, is the second, its cargo turnover increased by 15% up to 31.354 million tons; the third is Tallinn, Estonia, the cargo turnover of which increased by 9% up to 27.303 million tons.
Next go Klaipeda, Lithuania, with 14.479 million tons (-13%), the Latvian Riga with 12.402 million tons (+14%), Butinge terminal, Lithuania, with 4.66 million tons (+58%), Kaliningrad, Russia, with 4.582 million tons (+25%) and the Latvian Liepaja with 2.67 million tons (+7%).
