Development of Plastic Cards System

Published: 27 January 2005 y., Thursday
Seminar on development of non-cash settlements with use of plastic cards in Uzbekistan was held in Tashkent on Tuesday. Organised by the Banks Association, Single Processing Centre and Central Bank and some commercial banks, the event focused on results achieved by local banks in introducing the plastic cards system and existing problems. It also aimed at development of suggestions and recommendations on increasing the efficiency of undertaken measures. Introduction of the Single National Processing Centre (SNPC) under the Uzbekistan Banks Association is very important, since the banks are facing numerous problems related to banking operations, SNPC director-general N.Gaynullin said. The strategy of introduction of the non-cash settlements system should be developed and corrected not only by each separate bank but also with joint efforts, he said. Created on 13 November 2004 on the basis of existing inter-bank processing centre, SNPC allows carrying out banking operations in single regime in all trade points, independently from the bank servicing the trade or service enterprise or the plastic card holder. 20 banks have joined the SNPC so far, Gaynullin said. Representatives of the National Bank, Uzpromstroybank, Asaka Bank, Business Bank and Capitalbank presented the results of their activity at the seminar.
