Cumulative Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Lithuania has been consequently growing. At the end of the third quarter it reached 14,98 billion litas (€ 4.3 bill.) – since the beginning of 2004 it grew almost 10 percent (1,28 bill. litas, or € 0,37 bill.).
At the beginning of year 2004, cumulative FDI amounted to 13,699 bill. litas (€ 3,97 bill.). FDI flow during January-September reached 5,19 bill. litas (€ 1,5 bill.), increasing by more than 1,5 bill. litas (€ 0,43 bill.) compared to the respective period last year. The largest share of FDI in Lithuania this year was formed by investments in manufacturing (€ 276,5 mill.), electricity, gas and water supply (€ 77.6 mill.), wholesale and retail trade (€ 72,9 mill.) as well as financial intermediation (€ 52,5 mln.). The biggest investments came from Denmark (15,8 percent), Sweden (15,4 percent), Germany (9,6 percent) Estonia (8,7 percent) and Russia (8,6 percent). Investments from the European Union made 75,8 percent of total investment, whereas investments from CIS – 9 percent respectively.
