Gross domestic product grew by 5.5 per cent in II quarter 2008

Statistics Lithuania informs that based on available statistical data and used econometric models, estimated GDP in II quarter 2008 totalled LTL 28393.3 million at current prices and, as compared to II quarter 2007, grew by 5.5 per cent (estimated using a chain-linking method in volumes of value added).

In II quarter 2008, the increase in the gross value added (GVA) was conditioned by the change in the value added generated by enterprises engaging in manufacturing, construction, wholesale and retail trade.

Over I half-year 2008, GDP reached LTL 52587 million at current prices and increased by 6.2 per cent. The I half-year results were conditioned by the increase in the value added generated by the activity of enterprises falling within the above-mentioned business fields, as well as enterprises engaged in transport, storage, communications, real estate, renting and other business activities.

In II quarter 2008, the per capita GDP at current prices made LTL 8448, which (price adjusted) was by 5.9 per cent more than in the respective period of 2007.

In II quarter 2008 against II quarter 2007, seasonally and working days adjusted, GDP increased by 5.7 per cent, while against the previous quarter – by 1.1 per cent (see Diagram 2).
