Moscow_s first Chinese trade center, Tyan Ke Lun, opened on August 2nd at 21 Novy Arbat. This is the first Chinese center not only in the Russian capital, but in the entire Russian Federation. The Chinese trade center was opened by Vladimir Malyshkov, head of the consumer market and services department of Moscow. Participating in the opening ceremony was the Chinese Ambassador in Russia, the deputy head of the Chinese internal trade department, and the deputy mayor of Beijing. Within the next few years a network of supermarkets selling Chinese food and consumer goods is planned to be opened in Moscow. The second center is to be opened in Moscow at the beginning of the year 2000. The Tyan Ke Lun company was selected out of 600 candidates by the Chinese government for creating a network of trade centers in the Russian capital. supermarkets are structured in the same way as Chinese supermarkets are. In every supermarket of the new network there will be a dry cleaners and a bakery. The supermarket on Novy Arbat occupies more than 6,000 sq. m. According to representatives of Tyan Ke Lun, the Chinese government intends to invest "many millions of dollars" into the development of trade centers in Moscow.
