Removing Obstacles to Growth

Lithuania is among the world’s top 10 reformers of investment climate and top 20 economies in terms of ease of doing business, according to the World Bank Report Doing Business in 2005: Removing Obstacles to Growth. The report benchmarks regulatory performance and reforms in 145 nations. It finds that economic reforms, while often simple, can help create job opportunities for women and young people, encourage business to move into the formal economy, and promote economic growth. The report also says that it is the new entrants into the European Union, which are among the top reformers of investment climate. According to the report, the world’s top 10 reformers are Slovakia, Colombia, Belgium, Finland, India, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Portugal and Spain.
