Statistics on hotels in Lithania

According to provisional data provided by Statistics Lithuania, over I half-year 2009, accommodation establishments had by 22.1 per cent less guests than in the same period of 2008.

Over I half-year 2009, accommodation establishments (hotels, guesthouses, motels, rest establishments, health care establishments, etc.) had 633.4 thousand guests, of whom 53.3 per cent were foreigners. Hotels and guesthouses accommodated 490 thousand, rest establishments – 25.9 thousand, health establishments – 45 thousand guests. Against I half-year 2008, the number of guests in Druskininkai municipality accommodation establishments decreased by 14.9 per cent, those in Birštonas municipality – by 11.7 per cent,  in Neringa municipality – by 44.7 per cent, in Palanga municipality – by 24 per cent.

Over I half-year 2009, against the respective period of the previous year, hotels and guesthouses accommodated by 20.2 per cent less guests; the number of foreigners decreased by 14.6 per cent. The number of guests from EU countries decreased by 18.1 per cent. Less guests arrived from the neighbouring countries such as Estonia (26.7 per cent), Latvia (20.9 per cent), Poland (17.5 per cent), as well as from Western Europe – Ireland (53.8 per cent), United Kingdom (38.2 per cent), Austria (23.2 per cent), Italy (19.2 per cent), the Netherlands (17.1 per cent), Finland (16.3 per cent), Sweden (15.6 per cent), Germany (12.6 per cent). The number of guests from Belarus increased by 29.6, from Iceland – by 17.3, from Spain – by 4.0, from Russia – by 0.5 per cent. The majority of guests were from Poland – 54.6 thousand (in I half-year 2008, 66.2 thousand), Germany – 39.3 thousand (in I half-year 2008, 44.9 thousand), Russia – 32.1 thousand (in I half-year 2008, 32.0 thousand), Latvia – 25.7 thousand (in I half-year 2008, 32.4 thousand), Belarus – 13.3 thousand (in I half-year 2008, 10.3 thousand). In I half-year 2009, the occupancy rate of hotel and guesthouse rooms amounted to 32.1 per cent (in I half-year 2008, 43 per cent).

Over I half-year 2009, Vilnius hotels and guesthouses accommodated 229.2 thousand guests, or by 19.9 per cent less than in I half-year 2008. The number of foreigners amounted to 186.1 thousand, or by 16.6 per cent less than in the same period of 2008. In I half-year 2009, the occupancy rate of Vilnius hotel and guesthouse rooms amounted to 42.1 per cent (in I half-year 2008, 53.9 per cent).
