Number of Payment Cards Exceeds One Million in Lithuania

The payment card market posted an 80% increase in the first half of 2002 compared to the same period of 2001.
As of July 1, commercial banks had issued 1.178 million different payment cards. Vilniaus Bankas and Hansa-LTB remained the leading players on the payment card market this year, having issued 520,900 and 380,000 cards as of July 1, respectively.
In Lithuania at present there are about 800 ATMs and around 8,900 places where cards are accepted for payment.
