On 1 July, Uzbek national currency - soum - turned 10 years.
Introduction of the soum on 1 July 1994 became an important step in creation of the national monetary system and allowed to found one of the main mechanisms of economic reforms, Kamoliddin Tolipov, deputy director of the Institute for forecasting development and liberalisation of the banking and financial system under the Central Bank, said.
As a result, necessary conditions were created to stir up structural reforms in the economy, he added.
