Bull: Unveiling of MainWay 2600

Published: 19 March 1999 y., Friday
Yesterday Bull announced MainWay 2600, a new generation of communications servers for secure access to computer data. With an unprecedented level of data protection and access speed, MainWay 2600 is what business was looking for: Bull has shown it can offer its customers high-performance solutions with optimal security features. MainWay 2600 is the communications hub of the modern enterprise, handling links between a variety of protocols and production applications in a range of environments: UNIX, MVS, GCOS, the Web… in LAN or WAN networks, and with TCP/IP, SNA or OSI/DSA protocols. MainWay 2600 offers reinforced user authentication procedures, and base components can be combined to target company-specific security needs. With its built-in firewall - equipped with smart-card authentication - the use of such market standards as RADIUS, and the encryption of network-borne user data, MainWay 2600 offers one of the toughest levels of security around. Moreover, MainWay 2600 integrates with Bull_s OpenMaster package, and specifically with the Access Master security administration solution. MainWay 2600_s physical security mechanisms, situated at every level - the various communication processors (LAN, WAN, services etc), redundant links, dual power supply - allow for a load distribution which helps maximize uptime and overall system performance. Logging on new users, when you open your corporate data up to your outside partners, entails far greater data rate and bandwidth requirements. MainWay 2600 caters for this upsurge with a significant improvement in data rates (10/100Mbps) and substantial upgrading and adaptation capabilities (Gigabit Ethernet, ATM, etc).MainWay 2600 comprises a LAN Extender (3Com CoreBuilder switch), an Open Network processor, and line modules to control remote access. On the software side, the operating system (DNS-E, Distributed Network Supervisor) handles the security and gateway functions. The 5 upgradeable models in the MainWay 2600 range come in various LAN/WAN configurations with a number of additional security options.
In its industry, Bull is recognized for innovative products including the Escala family of Unix servers, the NT Express5800 range, smart cards and software such as OpenMaster for secure management of systems and networks. In I.T. services, Bull is ranked in Europe as the third largest systems integrator and fifth in maintenance and support services.
