WAP Forum member Comverse is showing its new Mobile Visual Mailbox (MVM), which gives subscribers an efficient, visual interface for viewing and managing their messages.

The MVM interface replaces traditional serial-only access to voice mail messages. MVM shows subscribers multiple messages at a glance and lets them access any message in any order at the touch of a single key. When the subscriber selects the appropriate message it can either be played (voice mail), shown on screen (e-mail) or printed (fax).
WAP-enabled smartphones have the data-handling capabilities required for MVM and other applications such as Visual Provisioning. Smartphones are already appearing on the market and are set to become the dominant type of mobile handset. As an alternative to WAP, Comverse also offers GSM network operators its SIM Application Toolkit (SAT) solution for implementing MVM.
