Four-Color 3D Effects

Published: 24 September 1999 y., Friday
WineToday.com, an online news and information web site owned by the New York Times Company, brings viewers a first-hand look at the world famous grape harvest -- live via HarvestWatch 99. Beginning September 22, viewers can log on to http://www.winetoday.com/harvestwatch99/ and find out exactly how wine is made. The mystery behind the wine harvest will be revealed and demonstrated through a series of interactive multimedia pages at WineToday_s HarvestWatch 99. For example: Viewers can click on the HarvestCam icon and see live images broadcast from a bustling crush pad or busy cellar. Click on another icon for spectacular 360 degree views of the vineyards and various scenes from each winery. Click on a third icon and be transported to a series of 3D stereoscopic images of the people, places and techniques behind the winemaking process. Have a question about winemaking or harvest? Ask a winemaker and a whole host of experts via e-mail - and receive answers to your questions. Participating in WineToday.com_s live online harvest are Meridian Vineyards, a premier Central Coast winery and Silverado Vineyards, a Napa Valley winery owned by members of the Walt Disney family. For the first time on the Internet, viewers will be able to see color 3D stereoscopic images utilizing a patent-pending technology called "Solidizing". Solidizing is a new process that simulates 3D images from 2D images. The images seen at http://www.winetoday.com are the public_s first glimpse of this revolutionary technology invented by Michael Starks, a pioneer in 3D imaging and author of the standard reference book "Stereoscopic Imaging Technology". The new 3D effect may be viewed through patented glasses with ocher (yellow) and sapphire (blue) lenses, instead of the traditional red-blue ones. Free HarvestWatch 99 3D glasses are available at http://www.winetoday.com. A Chance to Participate in HarvestWatch 2000 Wine and technology lovers alike will also have the chance to bid on special wine lots from Meridian Vineyards and Silverado Vineyards online via Winebid.com. Taking HarvestWatch 99 one step further - from the Internet to the real world - American Airlines teams up with Meridian Vineyards and Silverado Vineyards, who will each host a chance for two to take part in HarvestWatch 2000. To register, viewers simply click on the HarvestWatch 99 icon located at http://www.winetoday.com. Winners will fly from anywhere in the U.S, dine at world-renowned restaurants and have the opportunity to participate in HarvestWatch 2000 courtesy of Meridian Vineyards and Silverado Vineyards.
