IBM Unveils 650MHz Aptiva

It_s a week of new partners for IBM, which announced a new Aptiva powered by an AMD-650 chip, and partnered with Pacific Bell on a DSL service. Big Blue also launched a Web site called ShopIBM, featuring a wealth of IBM products and services. IBM is filling the need for speed with two new PCs: the S-Series 860 (with AMD Athlon 600MHz processor) and 865 (with AMD Athlon 650MHz processor). Both models have 20.4GB hard drives, 128MB SDRAM expandable to 384MB, nVidia TNT-2 Ultra Processor with DVI Port for 3D graphics, and 56K modem.If you need a broadband connection for your souped-up PC, IBM and Pacific Bell are starting an ADSL pilot program this month in the San Francisco Bay area.Through September 30, Pacific Bell will waive the $198 ADSL equipment and service installation if you buy an IBM Aptiva 800 or 902 that_s pre-configured with a Texas Instruments ADSL modem (another new IBM partnership). The new ShopIBM site has 200 products and services from IBM and partners. It features online shopping assistants, real-time financing, and content for families and kids. ShopIBM offers a virtual plethora of home and home office selections: software and accessories, servers, networking switches and routers, LAN adapters, storage systems, PC accessories, upgrades, monitors, and workstations. The site also offers technical support for products.
