Bird-eye view of Vilnius. On-line broadcast

An on-line view from the monitor screen

Speaking about an on-line broadcast we mean not only television, we speak about Internet too. In comparison to television the Internet allows us not only to see and hear on-line program broadcast, it allows to realize all our ideas and thoughts in practice. With only one button press we can enjoy a real time view of the wild Africans’ dances or the choppy Baltic Sea via Internet.

What are the pluses and minuses of translation through Internet? A user staying at home can virtually take part in all the parties of stylish night clubs or to visit a modern show at the theatre. Moreover he saves his time and money. This is an amazing possibility for people who can‘t travel all over the world. All you need is a qualitative connection to the Internet.

The high qualitative on-line broadcast nowadays is used by businessmen, politics, sciencists, organizations and their branches. It helps to organize and participate in international video conferences, forums, distance education cources, presentations, lectures, etc. For example, one of the best American universities – the University of California – translates distance educational cources not only via television, but also via Internet. It allows people from all the world to study at the University and get Bachelor, Master or professional studies degree. Such practise is becoming popular in Lithuanian high schools too.

Modern contemporary equipment helps to organize video conferences through Internet quickly and expeditiously; allows to expand the auditorium with the representatives of different cities and countries. Video conferences via Internet were held between Ðeðkinë health center and Santariðkës Clinic in Lithuania. Performed medical researches were discussed during the conference. There is an Internet camera mounted at the Ðeðkinës health center reception desk. It translates the image to the Internet. Such cams will be helpful in the homes of seriously ill persons or seniors, the cameras can analyze the work of sick-nurse or doctor.

New possibilities

“The on-line broadcast via Internet opens new opportunities to broadcast image and sound“, - says Nerijus Jurðys – the head of the projects of the TV studio and video solutions of JSC “Penki kontinentai“. You can broadcast the view from one computer to another, or from a TV channel or proffessional video camera to another TV channel. Powerful computers with installed image card and special software are used for this purpose. The place of translation is not important, all depends on the quality of the Internet connection (the advisable network is a magistral optical network), because the qualitative broadcast needs high data tranfer speed.

“Skynet“ network users can enjoy the bird-eye view of Vilnius on-line from the roof of the business center “Hanner“ (116 metres altitude) at any time of day. The view from the video camera mounted at the trade center “Europa“ broadcasts to the LNK evening news forecast report. The headquarters of LNK in Ðeðkinë and the business center “Europa“ are connected by optical wires, on the ends of which are special optical heads, which allows to tranfer image signals via the optical wire. A professional video camera was tested instead of a panoramic camera. “It means we can organize high quality on-line broadcasts from the conference room, located in Vilnius skyscraper into TV air“,- says N. Jurðys.

“The quality of the image can be as high, as it can be broadcasted to television or recorded images can be used to write DVD, however, the company transfers data up to the speed 1Mb/s – for Communication Center users and 64 or 128 Kb/s – for those, who don‘t connect to the optical network“, - says the head of the projects of the TV studio and video solutions. The on-line broadcast via Internet of JSC “Penki kontinentai“ can be of different quality (high or low) and allows to write the translation.

There were 3 video broadcasts from the trade center “Europa“ arrangements made by the organization lately:

·  an opening ceremony of the business center “Europa“ (high quality), (low quality)

·  a President of the students voting ( (the first part’s record, the second part’s record, the third part’s record)

·  the races to the 31st floor of the business center “Europa“ (high quality , low quality).

The users of  “Skynet” network could enjoy not only the video, but also the sound broadcast watching the voting of the President of the students. You can find all braodcasts at the “Skynet film studio“ web-site www.filmstudio.lt. Moreover, the experiment film studio is holding negotiations with Lithuanian TV Studio on the subject to broadcast TV programms and to continue them on the Internet.
