Banco Santander in Mexico has awarded Wincor Nixdorf the service contract for its nearly 4,000 ATMs.
Santander is one of Mexico's four largest banks while its Madrid-based parent, with $1.23 trillion in assets, is Europe's biggest and the world's ninth-biggest bank.
Wincor Nixdorf will service Santander's Mexican ATMs from an office in Mexico City, and has established a new center there and in Monterrey.
The Paderborn, Germany-based vendor has committed to providing ATMs that are in service more than 99 percent of the time – a challenge, it says, given that
Mexico spans seven climate zones, with temperatures ranging from minus 30 degrees to plus 40 degrees, Celsius.
Santander, Mexico, also has ordered 450 self-service ATMs from Wincor Nixdorf. The bank has begun rolling these out.
