Tesco, Poland's leading retail enterprise, awards service contract to Wincor Nixdorf

Published: 23 January 2009 y., Friday

The Tesco retail chain in Poland has chosen Wincor Nixdorf to maintain its 4,600-strong estate of POS systems and servers from different vendors. This is covered by an agreement that Tesco has signed with Wincor Nixdorf and that will be valid for eleven years. The contract comprises an array of services, from classical maintenance through to operations management of the IT infrastructure, and includes central monitoring and control of third-party servers and software via real-time remote monitoring. This will help maximize the availability of all the systems involved. In placing this order, Tesco is entrusting large areas of its IT operations to Wincor Nixdorf, which will enable the company to concentrate fully on its core business.

Wincor Nixdorf POS systems were installed in Tesco's first hypermarket on Polish soil as early as 1998. Today, with its 54 hypermarkets of similar size, over 260 other stores and 24 service stations, Tesco counts as the biggest retail enterprise in Poland. This rapid growth has resulted in a heterogeneous IT infrastructure comprising a wide variety of devices from different vendors.

The contract covers all services related to repairs and maintenance. In addition, an end-user help desk will be available. All systems are linked remotely to Wincor Nixdorf’s System Management Center. Real-time monitoring including prompt problem reports and remote maintenance take place here round the clock. In addition, the central servers, backup servers and software are all controlled and monitored centrally. Wincor Nixdorf's operations management also fully covers hardware and software monitoring of third-party products in full. With this integrated solution – comprising Product Related Services and Managed Services – 4,600 POS systems in over 300 outlets and Tesco's entire IT infrastructure in Poland will be managed from a single source, as will all service callouts.

Wincor Nixdorf has built up its own services network throughout Poland and rates itself number-one provider of programmable electronic POS systems to the Polish retail industry.
