Guardia di Finanza di Milano (the italian financial police) has caught the writer of Vierika virus, a new "worm" similar to Anna Kournikova but worst.
It is a .jpg file that hides malicious VBS code. The virus does mass-mailing and connects to a Web page on an important italian Internet Service Provider. This downloads a second part of malicious code that lowers the security levels of Internet Explorer and interacts with other Visual Basic scripts in order to overcharge the system. The connection to the Web site could have been an effect similar to "Denial of service".
The virus has been programmed directly from the virus writer, without using tool publicy available for creating viruses. This is the first case of a virus writer being captured in Italy.
