44 percent of all Internet traffic is generated by non-US domains, according to a report from WebSideStory_s Stat Market. This compares to 28.91 pecent of traffic generated by the .com domain, 25.23 percent of traffic generated by .net, 1.6 percent of traffic generated by .edu, .22 percent generated by .org, .07 percent accounted for by .mil, and .02 percent of traffic generated by .gov domains. The top ten country domains connecting to the Internet were Japan (23.6 percent), Germany ( 15.47 percent), UK (6.64 percent), Canada (4.96 percent), Australia (4.17 percent), Italy (4.09 percent), Sweden (3.81 percent), France (3.79 percent), Netherlands (3.29 percent) and Switzerland ( 1.49 percent). The report cautions that the expansion of non-country-code ISPs is likely to skew the figures for foreign representation. The findings are based on data taken from a panel of 28 million unique daily visitors to 86,000 Web sites. The survey was conducted on June 6, 1999.
