Week of “InfoBalt” Activities

The next week (October 23-28) can be deservedly called the week of information technologies. Three significant activities, two of which are international will take place. The Association “InfoBalt” is organizing all the activities. In October 23-24 International Conference “Information Society 2000” and Market of Information Society Technologies – “League of Investors” will take place. On the 24th of October “Multimedia League” and finally in October 25-28 traditional International Exhibition “InfoBalt 2000” will take place. It is obvious that the week will be very busy and intensive both for the participants of the exhibition and conferences and for the visitors. It could be said that society became much more interested in information technologies, especially comparing with the past year, when people with anxiety, suspicion or even fear at the computers and at information technologies, which were coming from the West. Now the situation is changing for the better and the managers of “InfoBalt” Association have expressed gladness concerning present situation during the press conference that took place in the Seimas. During that conference the week’s entire program was introduced. The week will begin with the international conference “Information society 2000” that is organized in Lithuania for the second time already. About 600 participants from 15 countries will introduce themselves. Among the main questions that will be discussed and analyzed during the conferences electronic economy and information society development are. Also how significant impact of information technologies on the management of the country is and what role they play in education processes. Much attention will also be concentrated at the electronic business; even the motto of the conference is “the leap to the new economy”. Media and means of transfer of e-news shall not be forgotten, too. Also expectations regarding our country’s future in the context of globalization will be discussed. Tasks of the conference are to promote society’s anxiety concerning current or possible future unfavorable processes in Lithuanian IT market or even whole society, to strengthen relations with EU and to do our best while learning from the countries’ of EU experience in information society formation. Very interesting that constitutional amendment concerning the right of all Lithuanian citizens to be given access to the Internet is expected to be introduced. Declaration regarding the right to get access to the Internet, where concrete ways and means of improvement of internetization process in Lithuania and the country’s lagging behind in the sphere of IT technologies, is also expected to be passed. Sure, many forecasts on how our society changes after IT become firmly established and what the way towards the information society is will also be introduced. During the “League of Investment ” ten firms (nine of them are Lithuanian) will present their investment projects, will introduce their offers in what to invest. Foreign investors’ offers are expected to be received because Lithuania needs many investments, especially in electronic business development., cheap and prompt connection, systems integration and other fields. On Tuesday, on the 24th of October, in the Modern Art Centre “Multimedia League”, organized also by Association “InfoBalt”, will take place. It will be the first time when during the conference development process and current situation of multimedia in Lithuania will be overviewed. Public session under the title “Multimedia market in Lithuania and in Europe” d7ring which not only the role of art and culture in the Internet will be overviewed but designers will also share their experience. There’ll be multimedia exposition all day long, after which the best multimedia creations that are presented during “Europrix” will be rewarded. Purpose of this activity is to draw attention of the public that art and culture can easily spread in the digital form also. International exhibition “InfoBalt 2000” is organized for the seventh year already. It will take place in the exhibitions’ hall "Litexpo" in Vilnius and about 200 participants will arrive there. This year more attention will be given to the information society in the context of the newest technologies. The exhibition will last for four days, so not only the specialists, for whom the first two days are given, will have the opportunity to visit it, but everyone who wishes. Special trade and entertainment pavilion-fair, “E-future” will be created. Technologies destined for leisure, means of e-trade will be exposed there. There you will also get acquainted with e-business solutions, computer graphics, creation of Internet pages, computer games, and other interesting things regarding information technologies. On Sunday, the last day of the exhibition, competition will be announced on the best kite, in which pupils and students will participate. This day entrance to the exhibition for them will be free of charge. The list of competitions, seminars and other activities that will be organized during the exhibition may of course be continued further, but perhaps it is better to come and see everything yourselves.
