„Penki kontinentai“ company group secondary company „Skaineta“ has been ranging virtual community already since 1998. Now over 3 5000 business and private users use „Skynet“ Internet connection. One of the biggest advantages of the magistral optical network that was extended by „Skynet“ is that data goes much quicker throw it than throw wires. Now the optical network connects the user to foreign networks at the rate of 60 Mb/s, and with the Lithuanian networks at 100 Mb/s.

 

 

There is plenty of entertainment on „Skynet“ network that are designed for the users of the inside network. One can watch stereo quality video recordings and listen to Internet radio with the help of the high-speed Internet. If you purchase a not very expensive Internet camera and headphones with an integrated microphone you can quickly create a videoforum. Up till now forums at http://www.forum.lt/jusuforumas.lt could be created only by „Penki kontinentai“ clients. Since April 15, 2004 the rest who want to communicate in a modern and qualitative way are also invited to try the new modern communication medium. The clients only have to sign a contract with „Penki kontinentai“  and pay 150 Lt annually. Then they will be sent a user name and log in password.

One can communicate with other members of the network through Internet in „Skynet“ video chatrooms, it is also possible to organize audio and video conferences. Fro mnow on you will be able not only to hear but also see the interlocutor, no matter how many kilometres may separate you! You can transfer large quantities of data with the help of Optical Internet in a short time. You can use file exchange systems and FTP servers in the „Skynet“ network as well as play computer games against one another.

Virtual film and TV fan club  

Company „Penki kontinentai“ founded „Skynet film studio“ a year ago. It is an experimental film studio that makes films by telephones that can take pictures and by Internet surveillance cameras. Later they are saved and showed on the Internet. „Skynet film studio“ is now updating its Internet site www.filmstudio.skynet.lt, where shortly there will be many new novelties and entertainment. The modern film studio today is aspiring to become the meeting place of not only film but also TV fans.

Now intense negotiations with Lithuanian TV studios are under way for the live transmission and continuation of TV shows on the Internet. It will be possible to watch not only TV shows live but also to discuss them real time, lead discussions with others in chatrooms, receive additional useful information about any show, read the previews, reviews in the site. It is already possible to review some episodes of an LNK show NK TV.

Already now during weather forecast on LNK news live pictures from the 31st floor of the biggest business and shopping center in the Baltic States „Europa“ are transmitted. You can observe Vilnius panorama from bird eye view live at any time of day!

 

 

On May 1st on Konstitucijos avenue „Europa“ business center and the European Square were opened solemnly. A live coverage of the opening could be watched on the Internet at www.skynet.lt/europa. If you did not have the opportunity to participate there or to watch it live on the Internet, you can review the memorable moments of the event here.

The project of digital video archives has already been started – during the project an archive of popular shows, commercials, transmitted event will be collected into a data base. If you did not have the opportunity to watch a TV show on TV you will be able to watch it on the Internet at any convenient time.

On the Internet site of the film studio „Skynet film studio“ you will be able to see the classical films owned by the Lithuanian film studio, negotiations are also under way with film directors about the possibility to show Lithuanian films in this site. At this moment „Skynet film studio“ offers you the possibility to watch one of the most famous and popular Lithuanian film of recent years– Audrius Stonys and Arûnas Matelis’ film „Flight over Lithuania, or 510 seconds of silence“.

One more novelty in the film rubric are the repertoires of cinemas which help the cinema fans to choose a film or to learn about organized events. Soon film promotion clips will be available in the site.

„Skynet film studio“ seeks to popularize in different ways the combination of audiovisual arts and modern technologies, implement the tradition of personalization when everyone can become an artist, create a digital film that is why the site welcomes not only professional film makers but also amatuers with video material recorded by Internet cameras or cellular phones.

In June „Skynet film studio“ invites for the second time to a video art festival „Skynet“. The works proposed for the festival and the biographies of the participants can be sent at the address filmstudio@skynet till May 15. The program of the festival will be shown on ACM outdoor screens over the Opera House and „Akropolis“, „Senukai“ and „Europa“ shopping centers. The chosen video art works will be shown on ACM outdoor screens in June at the dark time of the day. You will be in for an inimitable night film show!
