Lithuania Surpasses its Neighbours in Mobile Communications Penetration Rate.
The number of mobile phone users increasing rapidly, Lithuania’s mobile communications penetration is already reaching the average of the EU. According to the report of the European Commission on the development of electronic communications sector, at the end of June there were 379 mill. of mobile phone users in the 25 EU countries and the penetration rate was equal to 83%.
At the end of the third quarter of this year Lithuanian mobile phone companies had 2,98 mill. of users, or 37,3% more than at the beginning of the year (2,17 mill. of users). In Latvia the penetration rate during the respective period was 59%, in Estonia – 84% and in Poland – 51% says the report. At the end of September the mobile communications penetration rate reached as much as 86,7%.
