New beer jam to hit Czech market

Published: 24 March 2004 y., Wednesday
A family brewer in Chodova Plana, in the western Czech Republic, has invented a new way to enjoy the lager flavour on a slice of toast, a report said. “It’s a unique spread called beer jam,” and Chodavar Brewery co-owner Jiri Plevka told the CTK news agency he expects children as well as adults would soon be enjoying it on their breakfast bread. The amber-coloured jam was made from by-products of the brewing process. The recipe was a tightly guarded secret, the report said, but the jam does contain a “residual” amount of alcohol. CTK said Plevka was “exaggerating” in jest when he told the news agency: “When children dab a thin layer of butter and a lot of jam on four slices of breakfast bread every day, we will establish a dependence on Chodovar beer.” The first batch of beer jam is expected to be available later this year for the brewery’s restaurant customers.
