Strange Disappearance

Published: 15 July 2000 y., Saturday
Unexpected disappearance of Gediminas Kesus, the former general director of Lithuanian oil concern "Maþeikiø nafta", his son Valdas and the driver has drawn attention of all mass media. Only G.Kesus’s jeep "Mercedes Bents" that costs about 40 thousand dollars was found. There are no traces of violence in the car. The Interpol has declared search.

It seemed the former chief "Maþeikiø nafta" was absolutely safe. The oil tycoon, 45-years-old dweller of Maþeikiai, came to Vilnius to meet his 20-years-old son who arrived from studies from Great Britain. And they disappeared on a way from the airport.

Experts are examining the car; they try to find out suspicious smells and micro-particles. Attention will be given to the fingerprints on a rudder of the car. All the data concerning phone calls and the records of the petrol stations of the capital-city will be examined.

In spite of the fact that G.Kesus has left a post of the general director of the Lithuanian oil concern not so long ago, the rumours told about his huge possessions. The point is that the oil tycoon had big earnings and has a reputation of the skilled businessman. After leaving the enterprise he together with his wife began another business. In the centre of Maþeikiai he has constructed almost for 250 thousand dollars worth services centre with the shop, a dry-cleaner, cafe, bar. One of the partners appeared to be the wife of his ex-colleagues at oil concern - the person supervising deliveries of raw material and production process at "Maþeikiø nafta". It is very interesting that he did not give up petroleum business though has left the enterprise, too. According to the press he is the manager of the oil refinery plant in the Bulgaria. Who knows, maybe G.Kesus is also somehow connected to petroleum business.

Probably, this is only combination of events: G.Kesus disappeared almost at the same time when Public Prosecutor of Russia increased its attention to LUKOIL and to some actions of this concern that are connected with the export of petroleum. During the time when G.Kesus was managing LUKOIL worked actively with the Lithuanian petroleum concern.

Here is one more interesting fact: G.Kesus has send in his resignation when it became clear, that Lithuania has preferred American company "Williams International", not Russian LUKOIL as the strategic partner in development of petroleum concern. Even the special law that allowed to hand Americans the management of petroleum concern of Republic was accepted. Just after that Lithuania began to experience serious deficiency of petroleum. Rhythm of deliveries of fuel, with which LUKOJL provided, was broken.

Auditing checks were held after Americans inculcated in the petroleum concern of Lithuania; and the juicy detail was found. Last year when Americans has not arrived yet at the rhythmically working concern 25 millions dollars were written off. A part of it was written off when G.Kesus had not been retired yet. Not so long ago some data on one of versions of disappearance of the oil tycoon became known: according to this version G.Kesus himself has arranged this disappearance in order not to answer different questions concerning these losses.

Nevertheless, the basic version is abduction of G.Kesus and his son with the purpose of the repayment. About 25 thousand dollars are already withdrawn. However this is very small sum and it is rather doubtful, that for the kidnappers, if there were those, such sum was enough. To tell the truth, G.Kesus’s wife says she doesn’t know if there are other accounts husband could have.

According to the Lithuanian experts, the international grouping specializing on robberies of richest people of the world could steal the oil tycoon. However it is known, that the criminals which are interested in oligarchs are not interested in small sums. Only those of whose is not less than 3 millions US dollars interest them.
