Accounting systems for restaurants and cafes

Published: 12 November 2003 y., Wednesday
A growing number of Lithuanian restaurants and hotels are implementing effective computerized accounting and management systems. According to the marketing manager of “Universalios valdymo sistemos” (UVS) I. Ruginis, up until now, cash flow management was being computerized primarely by large enterprises; nevertheless the number of small enterprises taking interest in this is steadily growing. Taking into account rapid development of food service sector in Lithuania, UVS specialists created a computerized cash flow accounting program for restaurants and cafes – “UVS POSCafe”. The program covers all of the main activities of restaurant business and operates in several languages. The system is composed out of several programming modules, covering job functions of a cashier, a bartender, a waiter and a cook. All of the modules can be implemented at a working site or in the main computer. A stockroom accounting system ‘TradePro” allows full control of the production management process. Harmonized programs allow automatic exchange of data in various systems. In July, the UVS product was implemented for testing purposes in one of the newest Lithuanian hotels “Palanga”. Two working places – for a bartender and waiters – were installed in the restaurant of the hotel. Information about meal orders was transmitted to printers in the restaurant kitchen, located on the other floor. Cash flow program was harmonized with “Wincor Nixdorf” self-service banking equipment. UVS cash flow programs are adopted for payments with a debit card. Hotel visitors can also pay for services with a card that is used as a hotel door key. Key advantages of “UVS POSCafe”: reliability, convenience, speed and modern design. Computerized personnel control ensures high quality of client services. A restaurant manager can see which waiter works better, which meal is most popular, and at what time the turnover of the restaurant is biggest. The enterprise UVS was established in 1994. It distributes “Wincor Nixdorf” retail equipment. The enterprise maintains close partnership with “Penki kontinentai banking technologies” Ltd. with whom it established a joint enterprise “Kriptonika”. It also is a shareholder in a joint enterprise „Ashburn International“.
