The company Penkių kontinentų Bankinės technologijos (BS/2), part of the Penki kontinentai group, has updated their software solution SmartSafe designed for cash management in automated teller safes of banks installed in customer service locations.

Automated teller safes with SmartSafe software installed in them differ from ordinary safes because they can identify and count accepted and paid out banknotes, check if the money is not fake etc. by themselves. Such safes are used in open-plan customer service departments in banks where employees are not protected by bulletproof glass or bars.

Until now, each cashier’s computer would be connected to an automated teller safe directly or via another computer. With the improved SmartSafe, each computer is connected to the safe via a computer network. This makes it possible to connect more computers to one safe and to make better use of the potential of the equipment.

Besides, BS/2 has created an additional module of the software solution – SmartSafe Monitoring. It allows inward and outward cash flows to be analyzed in real time, optimizing them and predicting when the safes must be replenished.

“The main advantage of the improved solution is the possibility to “employ” information from different databases such as SQL. Another advantage of SmartSafe Monitoring is the fact that the solution may be installed after a customer has already chosen and installed one or another database. Thus it may be flexibly applied depending on a customer’s needs and financial possibilities,” Žan Ratomski, the manager of the Information technologies department of the company BS/2, explained.

He is convinced that the updated solution will enable banks to optimize their activity even more, to use financial resources more efficiently as well as to acquire more competitive advantage.

According to data from the Bank of Lithuania, 1,908 customer service locations were constructed in the country’s banks in the fourth quarter of 2008. The company BS/2 has installed over 150 automated teller safes in Lithuania. The Lithuanian company has also installed this equipment and SmartSafe software in Georgia, Ukraine, Russia, India, Libya and Panama.
