Published: 19 March 2012 y., Monday

In early March, at the conference and symposium held in Vilnius by the organization Open IPTV Forum (OIPF) and the group of companies Penki Kontinentai specialists of global companies such as Cisco, Motorola, Gemalto, Ericsson, Philips, and many others, discussed prospects of IP television (IPTV) and agreed upon the necessity of accelerating deployment of common IPTV standards. These and similar topics will be discussed in more detail in the course of one of the world’s largest Internet and communications technology exhibitions and conferences IP&TV World Forum 2012 to be held in London on March 20–22.

The group of companies Penki kontinentai will be here among dozens of other IPTV hardware and software manufacturers and service providers. This company that will be representing Lithuania at the exhibition for the fifth time, will introduce the exhibition guests to its created IPTV middleware notable for both its functionality and technological opportunities.

According to the Head of JSC Penki Kontinentai Strategic Planning and Programming Department Saulius Paukštis, the IPTV television is very different from what we are accustomed to.

“Even now our Skynet IPTV customers are provided with the opportunity to watch real-time broadcasts and order various videos as well as watch them at any convenient time, create their own personalized TV networks consisting of various preferred TV programs, play games on a TV screen, use video telephony, and so on. The IP television is a kind of symbiosis between TV and PC. The goal of IPTV developers is allowing the viewer to create his or her personalized TV, which opens up the opportunity of creating things on the screen, taking into consideration the viewer’s needs, habits, hobbies, lifestyle, and activities”, said S. Paukštys.

Aside these as well as multiple other solutions, the Lithuanian company plans to introduce the forum participants to the recently updated 4th generation graphical TV user interface that has been designed taking into account international standards and allows the viewer to manage all IPTV functions in an easier and more convenient way.

For those interested in the IP television and its potential Penki Kontinentai will offer the book ‘Naujojo šimtmečio televizijos horizontai’ (Horizons of New Century Television) by the Company’s specialists Tachmasib Dadashev and Saulius Paukštis, which tells the story of IPTV and discusses its perspectives in understandable language. According to the Head of Penki kontinentai Communication Centre’s Business Development Department Rytis Buračas, those are limitless perspectives, which may open up multiple new opportunities for the television users.

“IPTV is a significant part of our corporate strategy. We constantly offer new IPTV solutions to expand the range of services on the TV screen. Our developed banking and retail services platform IPTV Banking & Retail is already as good as the bank branch or e-banking or mobile banking. It allows users to manage their accounts, perform various banking transactions, open virtual accounts, and view reports on services rendered. Our next step is moving IPTV to the medical, tourism, security, intellectual home, electronic government and electronic voting, education and other sectors”, commented R. Buračas.

At the IP&TV World Forum 2012 conference, representatives of the group of companies Penki Kontinentai also plan to meet partners and colleagues from various companies around the world (i.e. Cisco, Gemalto, Digital Rapids, Motorola, Envivio, and others) as well as prepare to attend the awards ceremony, where, upon invitation of the Open IPTV Forum President Nilo Mitra, the Chairman of Penki Kontinentai Board Idrakas Dadašovas will award one of prizes to the most prominent companies in the IPTV market.
