Lithuanian Business Confederation paid its respects to the country’s business leaders

On the 16th of April, this year, Vilnius University hosted a congress of the Lithuanian Business Confederation (LBC) that brings together more than 3,200 Lithuanian companies and over 20 Lithuanian business associations. The purpose of the event was to discuss the accomplished and future tasks, to honor the country’s deserving businesspeople and members of the public.

Algirdas Butkevičius, Prime Minister of the Republic of Lithuania who attended the event, said that improving the business environment and making it more transparent is the priority and continuous effort of the present Government; therefore, efforts will be made to provide the most favorable conditions for fair and socially responsible business. “We are proud of tenacity of the Lithuanian businesspeople who have successfully withstood the trade ban policy of our eastern neighbor; they managed to retain export volumes and found new directions for their products”, explained A. Butkevičius, encouraging businesses to continue cooperation-based partnerships in the achievement of goals essential to Lithuania.

During the official ceremony, laureates of prizes issued by the LBC were announced. Partnership Leader of 2014, one of the most prestigious prizes, went to Alminas Mačiulis, Chancellor of the Government of the Republic of Lithuania. He was honored because of his understanding of and attention to business interests and expectations, constructive dialog in the development and implementation of the Government program, timely assistance in the legislative process in the meetings of the Government and coordination of ministerial functions, and integrity demonstrated in the consolidation of the state governance processes as well as improvement of their efficiency.

The Socially Responsible Business prize went to Gerovė, UAB, producer of plastic packaging. The company received the prize for its environmental initiatives implemented in 2014: production of products that encourage sorting, participation of the employees in cleaning campaigns and support of such campaigns through various measures, education of the younger generation through factory trips and sponsored publications.

The LBC Tokens of Honor were also awarded during the evening. These were received by persons actively contributing to the activities of the Lithuanian Business Confederation, shaping its positive image in the Lithuanian business community and taking part in the development of effective collaboration with public authorities. Idrakas Dadašovas, Chairman of the Board of a group of companies Penki Kontinentai, a long-time member of the LBC, was one of the awarded attendees. He received the LBC Token of Honor for many years of work in the Lithuanian Business Confederation and his contribution to the development of business in Lithuania, creating and employing innovative technologies in the country as well as introducing them abroad.

The LBC Tokens of Honor were also issued to Romas Apulskis, Chairman of the Trade Committee of the Lithuanian Business Confederation and President of the Legitimate Business Alliance, Dangutė Mikutienė, Member of the Seimas and Health Committee, Tautginas Sankauskas, President of LINEKA, Marius Skarupskas, Vice-Minister of Economy of the Republic of Lithuania, and Mindaugas Šalčius, former Chairman of the Insurance Supervisory Commission of the Republic of Lithuania.
