Lithuanian officers get to know Serco products

Published: 24 July 2012 y., Tuesday

On July 1, the Probation Law came into effect in Lithuania, and from now on electronic monitoring systems are to be used to control persons under suspended sentence. Such systems will be provided to the law enforcement officers by the company that was awarded the supply tender: BS/2, a member of the Penki Kontinentai Group. The company will supply the Ministry of Justice with advanced products from Serco Geographix Ltd (SGL), Europe's largest manufacturer of electronic monitoring hardware and software.

At BS/2's initiative, a training course was organized for probation officers. The course took place on July 18 at the Events Center (Renginių centras) located on the 31st floor of the Europa skyscraper. The course was taught by SGL's Aaron Briggs and Paul Eastaugh. 12 officers participated in the course, from all 10 Lithuania's counties (Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda, Šiauliai, etc.), alongside technical specialists from BS/2 and the Penkių Kontinentų Komunikacijų Centras company.

The foreign guests made a comprehensive presentation of the products intended to implement the Probation Law: personal identity devices (PIDs), site monitoring units (SMUs), field management units (FMUs), software, and tools to be used by officers. They explained how these products work and how to use them. During the course, the technical specialists had the opportunity to learn more about the most common problems, to get detailed information on how to configure the mentioned hardware and software, and to get answers to each and every question that arose.

The SGL representatives also visited Penki Kontinentai's central headquarters. They met with the company's managers to discuss cooperation prospects, and visited the company's departments, showing special interest in Service Desk.iQ, a technical monitoring solution, and in ATMeye.iQ, a solution for ensuring hardware security.
