The President has visited the stand of Penki kontinentai Group

Yesterday at the exhibitions’ hall “Litexpo” the tenth annual exhibition “Infobalt” began. The President of the Republic of Lithuania Rolandas Paksas also participated at the opening ceremony. Having visited the largest IT exhibition in the Baltic States the president Rolandas Paksas says he felt himself as Alice in wonderland, but according to him, the IT branch still leaves much. The President affirms that during the last decade a great leap forward has been done in the field of Information technologies in Lithuania. “I am convinced that in future the Baltic tigers will overtake the Asia tigers, and the Lithuanian bear will defeat the Baltic tigers”, - figuratively talked R. Paksas about ITT progress in Lithuania. “Lithuania is a network connecting East and West, and our objective is to give everybody an access to the internet. If 300 thousands of the residents of our country start using computers, learn to use internet, then the level will be reached at which an unbridled IT expansion process will begin and will never stop. We should not also forget that we must develop e-government project in order to make communication with the officials simpler. R. Paksas visited the largest stand of the exhibition – “Ericsson”, “Lietuvos telekomas”, “Omnitel”. The President also visited the stand of Penki kontinentai Group; he showed the interest in the service the company presents and talked about the information society development in Lithuania. At the opening ceremony of the exhibition the president of “Infobalt” association V. Vitkauskas said that information technologies’ development helps to safe such worthy thing as time. The last year 200 participates presented their services and solutions at “Infobalt” exhibition, this year number of participants increased up to 215. 70 lectors from 10 countries worldwide will conduct the seminars. At the year 2002 ITT market turnover reached 5 milliards Lt.
