Wild Guesses of “Lietuvos telekomas“

Published: 12 November 2004 y., Friday
The article written by the journalist V. Stasaityte in the daily paper “Respublika“ on November 11th, 2004 was talking about a so-called connection between one of the biggest Lithuanian IT companies JSC “Penki kontinentai” and the scandal in “Lietuvos telekomas“. The article “Ears of the police supporters in the Telecom scandal” attempts to associate JSC "Penki kontinentai" with the company "Verslo tinklas", which “Lietuvos telekomas“ suspects to be the informer in this scandal. The incrimination is false as it is based on limited facts that the directors of "Penki kontinentai" and "Verslo tinklas" are connected through family and business relationships. The statement, which directly or indirectly links "Penki kontinentai" to the scandal, is false and unsubstantiated. The Director General of JSC “Penki kontinentai” – Idrakas Dadasovas, emphatically denied the incrimination. “We don’t consider ourselves as competitors to “Lietuvos telekomas”, since IP telephony is just one of the many of our integrated services and one of our business activities. The goals of JSC “Penki kontinentai” are wider in comparison to short-term interests of “Lietuvos telekomas”. We contribute to the creation of the information society in Lithuania, our projects are purely financed by the internal company funds, without any support of the government funds, one of those are: e-school, e-medicine, e-safety and e-culture projects.. The foundation of the projects is a dialogue and relationships between governmental institutions and citizens, and their objective is to facilitate in improving those. Therefore, based on business relations between “Penki Kontinentai” and the Bureau of criminal police and on the number of other assumptions it is false to suspect “Penki Kontinentai” being linked to the events in “Lietuvos telekomas”. The Director General believes that intentional erroneous interpretation of the facts regarding “Penki Kontinentai” involvement demonstrates the intention of “Lietuvos telekomas” to switch over public attention from their own problems to the scandal’s initiator, who is still unknown to the public. While having monopolistic rights “Lietuvos telekomas” was causing numerous barriers to the development and expansion “Penki Kontinentai” telecommunications network, however it has never become a pretext for “Penki Kontinentai” to initiate a conflict. I. Dadasovas declares that false assumptions and conclusions are negatively affecting company’s reputation; the company is ready to take legal action in order to protect its name and interests.
