Teachers to get raise in September

The Cabinet of Ministers directed the Ministry for Finance to allocate LVL 2.88 million from the national budget to increase teacher salaries as of Sept. 1. The government approved the division of the additional funding. LVL 372,734 is to be allocated to subsidising special schools in Latvia's districts and municipalities, and LVL 2,076,170 to salaries in local educational institutions. The plan, drawn up by the Ministry of Education and Science, provides a grant of LVL 9,277 to general education programs, LVL 4,544 to sanatorium-type boarding schools, LVL 4,733 for problems among minors, LVL 195,635 for professional training, LVL 2,461 to methodology institutions and LVL 20,763 to various sporting bodies. The government also approved the education reform plan for raising cost efficiency drawn up by the Ministry of Education and Science.
