Vilnius City Municipality initiates summer curriculum program “Vilnius’ Children, Let’s Go Summer” due to desire to provide children from Vilnius with an opportunity to spend their summer vacation in a very interesting and unique way.
Beginning June 1, 2002 until September 1, 2002, the beginning of the new school year, Vilnius City Municipality as well as non-government organizations and city businessmen offer some dozens sports and cultural activities, distractions both outdoors and indoors, even in virtual space. The organizer of the program, Vilnius City Municipality, points out the fact that due to the out of budget contributions the Vilnius City Municipality became the main initiator without using its additional funds.
“Vilnius in summer without children’s smiles is not Vilnius: this could be the program motto”, says one of the initiators of the program “Vilnius Children, Let’s Go Summer”, Vilnius Mayor’s Assistant, Mr. Vitas Mačiulis. According to Mr. Mačiulis, Vilnius City Municipality finds children’s occupation during the holidays to be a very important issue. Children need to have possibilities to have a good time, to feel that they are a very important part of the city life in the community that takes care of them.
