Greens Appealing to Common Sense, Demanding Stop to Temelin
Published:
5 March 2001 y., Monday
Austrian Greens spokeswoman for the environment Eva Glawischnig appealed on behalf of her party today to the Czech government's "common sense" and called on it to use the current technical problems at the nuclear power plant Temelin to declare a "break for consideration."
In their statement the Greens said that the Temelin turbine has big construction shortcomings and that there is therefore high time for the reactor to be definitively put out of operation. The Austrian news agency APA quotes Dana Drabova from the Czech Nuclear Safety Authority (SUJB) as saying in the daily Pravo today that the vibrations in the turbine pipeline have not yet been completely eliminated.
According to Drabova, this is a long-term problem and scientists should be involved in its solution.
