This Saturday, 24 April, the Carlos de Amberes Foundation is hosting two conferences of European experts on the environment and sustainability and immigration policies in the EU, organised by the Allianz Cultural Foundation in the context of the Allianz Alumni Academy.

The first presentation is entitled "Environment and sustainability” and is based on the need for Europe to find new sources of sustainable, yet environmentally friendly, economic growth.

There is widespread recognition that the move towards a low carbon economy will have a positive impact on job creation and economic development. The debate therefore aims to assess the extent to which European policies to combat climate change will help create Europe-wide employment and effective answers to the challenges of the labour market in Europe.

The first conference will be attended by  Günther Bachmann (Council for Sustainable Development, Berlin); Renate Hornung-Draus (Director General for European and International Affairs, BDA German Business Federation); and Laura Martin Murillo (Director of Sustainlabour, International Labour Foundation for Sustainable Development)

The second debate revolves around immigration policies in the EU, from a broad perspective and within the context of the current economic crisis. The political, socio-economic and educational impact of immigration in the EU will also be analysed.

The speakers will discuss the situation in some Member States in particular, and will evaluate interesting and appealing legislative proposals at a Europe-wide level. The main figures of this conference are: Carmen Gonzalez Enriquez (Elcano Royal Institute); Kasia Kubin (Warsaw Diversity Forum Foundation); Alfredo Abad (Spanish Commission for Refugee Aid); and Salwa El Gharbi (Head of Human Rights and Cultural Diversity, UNESCO Centre of Catalonia).
