US intelligence forces detect no signs of life in the Russian submarine crippled at the bottom of the Barents Sea, France Presse reported. Their equipment identified an explosion occurred in the sub at the moment of accident. An anonymous U.S. intelligence source in Washington told journalists that there is no evidence that the sub's crew is still alive.
"Of course we hope that there are survivors in the sub but now we have no confirmation of that", the source said.
According to the US intelligence forces 5 out of 9 modules were sunk during the accident, ABC television reported. That means there is less oxygen than it was expected.
Russian attempts to dock a bell-shaped capsule with the sub hatch during whole night of 17 August were failed, the Russian Northern Fleet's staff said to RIA "Novosti". Deputy Chief of staff of the Russian Navy Vice-Admiral Alexander Pobozhy is on his way to Brussels for consultations with NATO specialists.
