Swedish-Polish Association Celebrates Quarter of Century

Published: 10 September 2000 y., Sunday
One of the few still active Swedish-Polish organisations in Sweden is celebrating its twenty-fifth year of exchange. It has been carried out all through the year with Polish exhibitions and music in Blekinge, the Southeastern parts of Sweden, where the organisation is based. Karin Maltestam has been the chairman ever since it started, 6th of September 1975. During the jubilee, Krakow 2000 is a common name for two exhibitions running in Blekinge. They are showing sculptures of bronze and wood, as well as Polish theatre posters, well known for their high standards. Polish graphics will also be displayed. In September, jazz-band Boba Jazz will perform during one week. They, too, are from Krakow. When created in 1975, the Swedish-Polish Association in Blekinge was a local organisation of the Swedish-Polish Society. Since then, the Association has become independent. After the fall of the Warszawa defence pact, many other Swedish-Polish organisation has ceased to be. But the one in Blekinge is living on and is continuing its projects. Today they are about 60 active members.
