Schumacher made a flying start Montreal Grand Prix, Canada

Published: 19 June 2000 y., Monday
Ferrari's Michael Schumacher has won the Montreal Grand Prix after rain and a penalty for McLaren's David Coulthard made for an eventful race. The German now leads the drivers' championship by 22 points over Coulthard, who finished seventh. Despite the Ferrari driver's enviable lead, he is not resting on his laurels. Schumacher's team-mate Rubens Barrichello came second in Canada to make it a Ferrari one-two, while Benetton's Giancarlo Fisichella took the other spot on the podium. Reigning World champion Mika Hakkinen finished fourth. Coulthard was trying to bring himself back into contention for championship points, during much of the race, after he received a 10-second penalty for stalling on the parade lap. The Scot was forced to come into the pits on lap 14, stop his engine for 10 seconds, before rejoining the race well down the field and 25 seconds behind the leader Schumacher.
