Scotland hunger for Lithuanian revenge

The Celtic midfielder insisted he had been hard done by when he conceded the spot-kick which sent Berti Vogts' side tumbling to defeat in Kaunas. Scotland had certainly not deserved to have come away from the St Dariaus and St Gireno Stadium 1-0 losers after Tomas Razanauskas netted in the 73rd minute. Vogts was philosophical afterwards, arguing that Scotland were still on course for a play-off place because three of their final games were at home. And McNamara, who had replaced the injured Barry Ferguson, was thinking along the same lines. He said: "It was frustrating because you don't want to lose games the way we did. That could be exactly what will be required as the visit of Algimantas Liubinskas' side is on October 11. Germany are at home to Iceland at the same time and those two fixtures will complete the qualification programme. Scotland have one game in hand and Germany two over Lithuania and the three nations will remain locked on seven points when Rudi Voller brings his side to Hampden on June 7. Goal difference could therefore be the key and at the moment just a single goal separates leaders Germany and second place Scotland.
