World number two Vladimir Kramnik defeated his long-time rival Viswanathan Anand in a wild game and now the three favorites are tied for the lead.
Leko, Anand, and Kramnik all have four points, and Adams is only a half-point back! We’ve an exciting finish in store with Leko still to face Anand and Kramnik.
Bareev turned in the only other decisive game of the round with his win over Huebner. Akopian fended off Junior 6 by building an impenetrable pawn wall and notched the draw. Adams and Leko played a tame draw, but it looked like Piket was close to victory against Khalifman. A crazy tactical affair was going in the Dutchman’s favor when he chose a liquidating combination that left him with only a draw by repetition.
