Turkish coach sends home one of his players

Published: 20 June 2000 y., Tuesday
Turkish national team coach Mustafa Denizli, after yesterday's dramatic game against one of the hosts Belgium, where they won 2:0, sent midfielder Tugay Kerimoglu back to Turkey. The player threw a water bottle in the direction of the Turkish bench after being substituted in the game. That was enough for coach to accuse him of disrespect: "Players who do not respect the coach have no place on my team. As long as I am coach of the Turkish national team, I cannot accept this type of behavior". The Turkish team after two Hakan Sükür's goals has reached the semi-finals of European Championship for the first time. Now there are in the second place of group A where Italy, Belgium and Sweden play also.
